The TIME News Feed reports that fine jewelry designer Stefano Canturi has created a one-of-a-kind Barbie doll featuring a 1-carat pink diamond to be auctioned off in support of the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
According to the Associated Press, designer "Canturi arranged the emerald-cut, fancy vivid diamond in a geometric pattern with smaller white diamonds, totaling 3 carats. He also designed the doll's black strapless dress, stilettos, hair and other features."
This Barbie doll will be featured at an upcoming Christie's New York auction and is expected to sell for $300,000 to $500,000. Once sold, Canturi's rendition will become the world's most expensive Barbie by far. All proceeds will benefit The Breast Cancer Research Foundation in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
What can you do with this little tidbit?
• Hold a contest only available to those on Facebook. The winner would receive pink diamond jewelry piece (or another pink gem jewelry piece) with a reasonable buy-in that will be donated to a breast cancer research charity.
• Feature a display showing off your pink jewelry. Tell your customers that a percentage of the profits from each sale during the month of October will be donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation or another breast cancer benefit foundation of your choice.
Above all, let your customers know that you are committed to using your jewelry to help find a cure.
