Jewelry Website Optimization: FAQ Pages

by
Today's Daily Golden Nugget comes from the secret vault of traffic building and link magnet techniques that we typically reserve for our own website optimization and it's a technique we employ when getting paid the big bucks.

Today we are giving this secret technique to our jWAG members.

Every jewelry website needs to have content added on a regular basis. You need to keep the search engines interested in you and you also need prove to your customers that your website is a living, breathing, real representation of your jewelry store.

The best way to prove you are alive and kicking is to do the unexpected...

Read your customer's mind.

There are ongoing and ever evolving trends in world, and sometimes even the economy and politics will influence what people search for and how they find your website. But how could you know what the masses of web users are searching for, and how can you turn your website into a magnet for their attention?

Easy; listen to the first person that asks you a question. If you answer that question quickly and post it to your website, you can gain attraction from the next person that comes along.

Here's how you do it:

Log into your Google Analytics account and navigate yourself over to the Traffic Sources link on the left side; then click on Keywords.

This is the list of keyword phrases that people searched for when finding your website in the SERPs. By default, it will show you the top 10 popular keywords, things like "diamond wedding bands" or "bridal ring sets" and the obvious "engagement rings."

Honestly, we don't care about those when we're building content on the websites and trying to create link bait for bloggers to link to. Instead, we need to look for the real gold in this keyword list.

Change the number of rows you are viewing from 10 to 500. To do this, click the drop down menu at the bottom right corner of the page. It's labeled "Show rows."

Next, sort the phrase list by keyword; to do this, hover over the background next to the word "Keyword" at the top of the phrase list.

Now, look through the list for all questions that start with the words "do," "what," "why" or "how."

You might find questions like the following real examples:

"who designed Kate Beckinsale's wedding rings"
"what size should the side diamonds be on an engagement ring"
"how to make Debbie Brooks purses"
"where can I sell old jewelry in my local area"

Each of these represents real world questions that people are asking. If one person is asking, then someone else is sure to eventually ask again. Built right into your website is an amazing source of suggestions on what new content to add to a regular blog, article library or educational pages.

Take each question as a potential FAQ, but instead of adding them to the FAQ page of your website, you should create individual pages for each question. Answer the questions without keyword stuffing or worrying about SEO. Let the organic, natural nature of the question and the answer serve your needs.

Eventually, you will build up a mass of additional content for you website that other jewelers will envy and be completely confused how you could be so in tune with the customer's needs and questions.
