The Right Choice for the Tight Budget: Google AdWords vs. Facebook Ads

The Right Choice for the Tight Budget: Google AdWords vs. Facebook Ads daily-golden-nugget-1554-43
Because the online paid advertising playing field changes monthly, my clients constantly ask for my current recommendation for where to spend their limited marketing budget. Although there are many online advertising possibilities, I prefer that businesses use Google AdWords and Facebook Advertising because the ads can be changed frequently to highlight current offers.

Beware of Changing AdWords

Google AdWords is a complicated system that can be learne...

Shockey Jewelers FridayFlopFix Website Review daily-golden-nugget-1544-43
This is the Friday Flop Fix website review. The goal of this review is to examine the mistakes a random website is making and suggest ways to fix it. I do my best every week to take on the role of a typical internet savvy consumer as I search for a review candidate. I also use the Google Chrome browser set to incognito mode so my previous browsing history does not influence the search results I see.

For today's search, I used the phrase "jewelry stores Elgin, IL" and saw these results:

Reason Why Online Ad Costs Increase During the Holiday Season

by
Reason Why Online Ad Costs Increase During the Holiday Season daily-golden-nugget-1134-45
It's the Thanksgiving Holiday in the United States. For many years, this day marked the official point on the calendar as the start of the holiday season in the US. Not too long ago, you wouldn't see a single Christmas Tree or holiday decorations in a store until the Friday morning after Thanksgiving. The Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade would march down the streets of New York and not a word about Christmas was mentioned until Santa Claus went by on that last float, giving us the go-ahea...

Take Action For The Better Or Get Out Of The Way

by
Take Action For The Better Or Get Out Of The Way 6850-daily-golden-nugget-948We all deal with issues on a daily basis that hinder our ability to move forward with our personal plans, life goals, and business successes. I'm not talking about money issues, family issues, or things you are aware of, but rather, issues that elude your consciousness but yet waste a lot of time and money.

These are the types of things that, from an outsider's view, would seem silly, but from your point of view they are completely normal. We are often shocked when an outside influ...

Tips to Write Copy, Part 2 of 4

by
This is a continuation of a 4-part series providing specific instructions and examples of how to write effective copy for your website and emails.

Each day we're providing you 3 tips.

4. Offer more than one freebie with purchase.

It's so easy to throw in a bottle of jewelry cleaner. That's why you have them stacked behind the counter in a cute pyramid. But let's step up your sales game and make the customer feel really special. What if you had 2 pyramids of stacked jewelry cleaner? One small bottle and one large bottle. You could advertise a free small bottle of jewelry cleaner with all purchases, but then as a closing tactic you could offer the larger instead. However, a better way to insure repeat purchase is to surprise them with the larger bottle saying something like, "We're giving a free small bottle ...

Tips to Write Copy, Part 1 of 4

by
In yesterday's Daily Gold Nugget, you discovered 4 actionable ideas to use on your home page and in your holiday emails. Starting today, and continuing for the next 4 days, we'll give you specific instructions to write your copy.

Here we go.

1. You Need An Attention-Grabbing Headline.

It needs to be much larger than the rest of the body copy on your page. You should apply some specific styles. You want a Sans-Serif font, bigger, and enough white space above and below the font so it stands out.

People will skip a headline if it's too crowded by the words and images around it. All fonts have a built-in padding to create minimal white space, but that's never good enough for a headline. You will need a proportional amount of extra spacing depending on the font size.

If we use the setting "font-siz...
