The Top 10 Landed Daily Nuggets of 2012

by
Since I spent a lot of time covering Landing Pages in 2012 I would like to present the top 10 Daily Nuggets that attracted website visitors. This is the list of Nuggets people most often landed on, which also could mean that these are the top 10 topics that jWAG helped people with in 2012.

Surprisingly enough, none of these Nuggets were written in 2012. The first one on the list was written in 2010 and the rest were all written in 2011.

What are those square dot-like bar codes becoming so popular?
I couldn't be more proud of this Daily Golden Nugget. Why? Because this is actually Nugget #2 that I wrote from a hotel room while vacationing around France. I had been dabbling with QR Codes myself since 2007, but few people had smartphones back then and only techo-geeks would even attempt to scan them in the USA. Google also tried to push them heavily in 2010, they even went so far as to mail out more than 100,000 QR Codes to popular stores to put in their front window. But alas, QR Codes just didn't catch on in the USA until 2012. I'm happy to report that my mother got a smartphone in December 2012 and she's been scanning every QR Code she can find. If she's doing it, you can believe that your customers are doing it too. The QR Code wave has arrived in the United States.

Black Hat SEO: Explaining Hidden Text
Another popular landing page Nugget this year was about Black Hat hidden text technique. This technique hasn't worked for quite some time, even before the date of this Nugget. The popularity of this post was strong throughout the entire 2012 year, but gained popularity in the summer months, which was strangely long after the appearance of Google Panda and Penguin. Read about it here.

Black Hat Doorway Pages vs. White Hat Landing Pages
This discussion of older black hat techniques was the 4th most popular landing page in 2012. Explained in this Daily Nugget were the details of how bad SEO companies were building pages on a website to attract search engines but annoy visitors. Thankfully this technique was also squashed by Google's filters.

YouTube has changed a lot since this Nugget was written, most notably is the use of the big red play button! Seriously though, it's still important to transcribe your YouTube videos.

Bold vs. Strong HTML Example for Jewelers
No one talks about simple SEO techniques like this any more. The difference between the HTML bold tag and the HTML strong tag were in a bit of a debate for a while, but then Matt Catts published a home video to explain that both uses were valid. This was an example of how
