The Top 10 Most Read Daily Nuggets of 2012

by
An interesting thing happened to the jWAG site in 2012 after we hit our 500th Daily Golden Nugget. The Google spider started visiting our website at a rapid pace, and our visitor counts increase dramatically. On most days the Googlebot spider will visit our latest Daily Golden Nugget at least 30 times in 24 hours.

Here's a list of the top 10 most visited Daily Golden Nuggets for 2012 according to our own Google Analytics tracking:

Google Free Merchant Center is Now Paid Shopping
Google announced in 2012 that their free Merchant Center system would transform into a paid advertising model called Google Shopping. Those of you with automated inventory uploads from your website to the Merchant Center would have to change things around and start paying for yout products to appear in the SERP. This was a disaster for some and a windfall for others. How did it affect you? Read about it here.

Example of Jewelry Website Copy Re-Writing
I'm glad to see this one made it into the top 5 because it's really important for jewelers to understand how short and simple write-ups on a webpage can actually harm their ranking in Google. Read this and understand for yourself how to boost your jewelry website SEO value.

Page Dates and Google SERP Dates
The Daily Nugget explained how to take advantage of Google's date discovery process. The goal was to show you how to use dates on your website so Google understands that you keep it updated. Read more about this date stuff here.

Difference Between m. and .mobi
Although the topic of mobile websites is covered several time each year of my Nuggets, the specific difference between the designation of the subdomain 'm' compared to the top level domain name of '.mobi' was never covered until this Nugget. Mobile is the future so you better read about this now.

Tapping the JIC for Jewelry Related Blogging Topics
I'm really glad to see this one make it into the top 10 list as well. The JIC even picked up on this Daily Nugget and featured it on their jic.org website. As the title of this Nugget suggests, this was a mini-lesson on how to use the Jewelry Information Center as source material for your own blog.

Case Study of How Constant Contact Ruins Your Facebook Timeline
I had a bit of fun researching and writing this one. I always enjoy when I touch upon a topic that can make an immediate difference, and that's what this did for those who implemented it. You always have to trade control for ease of use, and when it comes to email marketing you can inadvertently direct people away from your website.

Which Sells More: White or Yellow Gold?
Apparently this totally random topic one day managed to hit home and made it into this top 10 list for the year. So which did you sell more in 2012, white or yellow gold? When you re-read this Nugget you will find 2 links to my tracking data for white gold and yellow gold. Take a look for yourself and see which one the public seems more interested in. Could it be that more people want to clearly show off their gold because of the increase in price?

Using QR Codes with m. and .mobi
Here's an interesting coincidence. This is the second top Nugget with a similar title "m. and .mobi". QR codes are another topic near and dear to my heart as I've been tracking their uses in Europe and the USA for the last 3 years. As of today, most people still don't understand these QR "thingys" and marketing companies botch up their use most of the time. It's time to start using QR codes in your marketing, but only if you are willing to do it right.

The $3000 Reason Jewelers Should Be Blogging
Since this made it to the top 10 I can only hope that jewelers are taking the idea of blogging to heart. This was the first in a multi-series Nugget edition explaining how jewelers could go about blogging for themselves. There's a huge difference between spending $3000 per month on PPC campaigns that return immediate results and long term blogging that gains perpetual attention. What's long term? Read the Nugget and find out.

5 Ways to Attract Jewelry Buyers, 1 Easy Way to Lose Them
And the #10 on the Top 10 Most Read Daily Golden Nuggets was an explanation of how to attract customers to your website through 5 different methods and one simple way to push them away. Find out what the 5-and-1 are by reading this Nugget now.

As a conclusion, I'd like to point out that at the end of the Top 10 list for 2011 I mentioned that the 9th most popular Nugget in 2011 was our introduction to QR Codes from July 27, 2010. Amazingly enough, that same Nugget was actually our #1 MOST READ nugget during the last 12 months, but since it's from 2010 it's not included in this list.
