Writing Successful Product Descriptions for Jewelry Website

by
In layman's terms, search engine optimization is a delicate balance of information you show on your website: programming code used to make your website, ways that people can find your website, and how you treat people once they try to use your website.

We agree with the top reports from organizations like SEOmoz and Search Engine Land. They usually indicate that the Titles of your website pages and the quality of the content on your pages are the most significant website ranking factors.

The "quality of the content" is a strange phrase that many SEO guys will throw around but no one ever really defines it. That's because it's an indefinable concept that may change from website to website or industry to industry.

The search engine companies will never publicly say how they rank the content on your website. Google do...

Jewelry Shops on Google Mobile

by
This has been a big year for changes with Google as they try to figure out how to change from a purely mathematical search engine into something more socially controlled.

They are reaching out into the real world trying to gather data on how we all use the internet when we're away from our computers, i.e. mobile.

On June 20, 2011 they changed the way Google Mobile search works. If you allow google.com to detect your location automatically they will show you a list of popular nearby places. They've made a specific change to how m.google.com looks so you have fewer taps on your screen to find popular places.

Their top places usually include restaurants, coffee shops, and bars, but their default options on the next screen usually include "jewelry shops."

The phrase "jewelry shops" seems odd to us since we'd not ...

Interesting Findings When Analyzing a Jewelry Website

by
While recently cleaning up an old jewelry website and the jewelry product catalog, we noticed something that dates back to our Daily Golden Nugget #183 (read it here http://bit.ly/erFrbU) and we'd like to tell you about it.

In #183 we said that you should include Alt and Title attributes for all the images on your website. Our feeling is that if you make your website user-friendly it will rank better. In this case, the Alt/Title image attributes are used by screen readers for the visually impaired.

We also mentioned in last Friday's Nugget #230 (read it here http://bit.ly/m1N2D0) that the Alt/Titles also help get your images indexed in Google's Image search.

Just to add some more proof of the importance of the Alt attribute, there is a report from...

Best Search Engine for Organic Traffic to Jewelry Websites

by
Many jewelers criticize us that almost everything we teach refers to Google in one way or another. This is simply because in our tracking we see the highest percentage of organic traffic coming from Google.com.

Today we took a random sampling of the sites we work on and looked at an average percentage of all the current traffic in the last 30 days. Here are the results:

Organic Traffic for May 2011 to Jewelry Websites:
Google: 85.39%
Yahoo!: 6.41%
Bing: 5.94%
Search: 0.83%
AOL: 0.95%
Ask: 0.48%

It's amazing that Ask is still holding on as a search engine. It's also pretty surprising to see Search.com and AOL showing up as organic sources for organic jewelry website traffic.

Obviously you see how much traffic comes from Google. More than 85% of organic traffic for jewelry websites comes fro...

SEO: Page Title

by
As 2010 comes to a close and 2011 brings hopes of a better economy, we'd like to present to you some basic SEO ideas that we've not yet covered through our Daily Gold Nuggets.

Before we get into any specifics, let's introduce you to some basic terminology and search engine ideas.

First, you need to know that there is no magic silver bullet that will make your website show up in the search engines easily. It takes a lot of hard, tedious work.

Second, if you spend just one evening researching SEO techniques on your own, you will find huge inconsistencies between what all of the search engine optimization professionals say to do. There is no way that everyone is correct, yet every one of those professionals seem to get the job done using their "proven" techniques. Google and Bing do not freely publish a real how-to d...
