Let's talk about depreciated HTML tags. This is my Throwback Thursday topic from the last time I told you about a few depreciated HTML tags to avoid.

The HTML language is currently in its 5th incarnation, as in HTML5. Prior to Cascading Style Sheets, aka CSS, we had to use formatting features built into the HTML code, like <font> and <big> and <center>. Now we use CSS to format how a web page looks.

Meta Descriptions are probably the last thing on your mind when selecting the best website design company to create your jewelry website. But maybe it should be one of the first things.

If you are like most jewelers, you probably asked yourself how someone would find your website when you first created it. People don't just stumble upon your website the day you launch it. In fact you will be lucky to have 40 visitors in that first week unless you advertise the site somehow.

GOTCHA! Your Website Put You Out Of Business.

Technology has come a long way in 10 years.

In 2001, the internet bubble had already burst and some speculated that it would not last much longer. At that time, very few people had a website running with databases. The free PHP programming language that is so ubiquitous today was in its infancy back then. The few lucky websites with content management systems were mostly programmed in Pearl or expensive ASP and ColdFusion.

In 2001, if you wanted a website you had to find the smartest person you knew and pay them a lot of money to create one for you. Programmers also didn't make website management easy for you.

We've come a long way since Palm Pilots, clunky websites and search engines like MetaCrawler and AltaVista. Technology is a lot friendlier now, and even Grandma is able to send email, talk on her cell phone...
