Most Popular Smartphone Resolutions for September 2015 TBT daily-golden-nugget-1374-56
In this edition of #ThrowbackThursday, I'm jumping back to a year ago to the last time I updated my report on the most popular smartphone resolutions used by visitors to retail jewelry websites.

The last time I reviewed smartphone screen resolutions was only a week after the iPhone 6 had been released. For several years, the iPhone has been the most...

3 Mobile Website Considerations for 2015 and Beyond

by
3 Mobile Website Considerations for 2015 and Beyond daily-golden-nugget-1341-56
Last week I explained what I've been seeing with regard to mobile trends and your business future. Because of those trends, I strongly urge all businesses to start migrating their approach of reaching customers using the internet from a desktop computer point of view to a smartphone point of view. Doing so will be a complete shift in how you think, and what you...

by
Fix Mobile Usability Issues Found On Your Website daily-golden-nugget-1208-55
Search engine optimization was once a game of pure guesswork. SEO specialists would simply watch their own efforts of what worked and what didn't work, then simply follow the same steps over and over again.

Companies like MOZ.com and SearchEngineLand.com have communities of users always trying to figure out which supposed SEO techniques work, and which don't. Search Engine Land even published their of VIEW FULL GOLD NUGGET

More People Are Switching To Smartphones and Crave Up To Date Information

More People Are Switching To Smartphones and Crave Up To Date Information daily-golden-nugget-1131-21
I'm often asked how I keep up with all the internet changes because people feel overwhelmed. It really is true; the technology companies that control key factors of the internet make some type of change every day. Even though the internet is made up of millions of computers and billions of wires, it's the search engines and social networks that really control how we use it daily. In reality, the search engines and social networks are just software programs.

Most Popular Landing Pages For Mobile Users to Retail Jewelry Store Websites daily-golden-nugget-1104-1

More than 700 Thousand Reasons to Have a Mobile Website

by
More than 700 Thousand Reasons to Have a Mobile Website imageI watched a statistical video from Google last week where it said 58% of small businesses in the USA do not have websites at all, and far fewer have mobile websites. I'm always surprised by how big these numbers are because I know you can't survive in business today without an email address and a website.

Let me present the data that Google had that explains how often smartphone owners search for local stores on their phone, and what they do after the search.

I'm presenting information for the USA, UK, and Australia. I'm also breaking the dat...

Jewelry Website Mobile Usage Statistics

by
Jewelry Website Mobile Usage Statistics imageTo close out the week of mobile website topics, I would like to give you some statistics about mobile device usage from my own measured data.

My goal for today is to see what type of mobile device is more popular and what is the most popular content those users are reading.

My measurement sample was 135,675 pageviews across more than 100 jewelry websites of different types and sizes, making it a truly generic sampling of jewelry stores.

Here's how the operating systems were measured:

22,746 pages viewed by iOS/Apple users
7,463 pages viewed by Android users VIEW FULL GOLD NUGGET

55% Mobile and 99.999% Website Uptime

by
According to Nielsen's latest data, 55% of US mobile phone owners now have smartphones. Android usage has reached 51% and Apple's iOS is now down to 34%. Several of the SEO blogs I follow were abuzz yesterday with statistics and speculations of how all these mobile users are changing website and search usage.

The findings and reports yesterday focused on restaurants, auto, and travel industries. I decided to apply their finding to the jewelry industry and here's the important things I found.

62.4% of mobile traffic comes from mobile Google search. (Bing was too small to measure.)

22.5% of mobile traffic comes from referrals from other sites.

15.1% of mobile traffic comes from people who typed the domain name in directly.

59.7% of all mobile visitors entered a jewelry website through the home page.

Sitemapping Your Website

by
It's Memorial Day in the United States, which means all our subscribers there are probably watching a parade, sitting out next to their pools, on the beach, or having a back yard barbecue.

It's not supposed to be a work day, so let's keep this Daily Nugget brief.

Sitemap pages were very common back in the early days of the web because none of us really knew anything about navigation menus or buttons. If you wanted to get from one page to another on a site you simply looked at the sitemap page.

All pages of a website used to be listed on sitemap pages; of course, that was back when a large website was 20 pages. Today you can click through 20 pages of a site faster than counting to ten.

In the early 2000's, the sitemap page seemed to fall out of usefulness. But then as SEO strategies matured, we all realized...
